We've outlined a very simplistic view of the most common stages involved with recovery. Please remember, there can be more steps or less steps depending on where you are in your process, where the relationship is and the treatment phases the therapist defines for their own approach to your unique needs.
The Simple Path document we have linked for you below is a very basic starting point and it has not been personalized for you, nor is it necessarily reflective of your specific journey. It's a mini-list of some of the most common steps you may encounter. It may give you some frame of reference for the basic elements of a path to work on with your therapist. Just ask questions and stay involved in your therapy.
When your therapist has a chance to get to know you a bit, you might ask something like this: Are these the stages I will pass through? If so, how might we personalize it so I know my progress points? If these are not the stages you might recommend for me, what can we add or delete together? I need to understand my path. I want to know where I am going in this healing process. I want to own my path and understand its meaning for me.
