You're the captain of the ship called you. You're setting the course, the speed, and you're out there on the bridge, steering.
~ Carl Frederick

Whether you are new to therapy or seeking change, honor the gift of choice in the process. The gift of choice is yours alone and no one can choose for you better than you can. It doesn't matter what stage of the therapy process you are in, every leg of the journey involves choice and nothing is more important than the guide you choose to walk this path. How do you define a good guide? It's important for you to have a definition of what you need based on your needs, goals and objectives. It's important for you to weigh personality types and what feels comfortable to you. You're going to be working with this person for your benefit for a while. DID/DDNOS therapy is not short term therapy and it really isn't about "time" and defining how long that "time" to heal may be. The best definition of the time it will take is this: "as long as it takes". It's not a task to complete on your daily to-do's. It's not a project.

It's you, all of you and that's a pretty special package to invest in. This is your investment in yourself and your life.

Therapy is all about you and step one is to realize you have choices in the process of selecting a therapist. You should consider the basics such as background, education, experience, personality style and how that style might work best for you, how the therapist approaches treatment for DID/DDNOS, and a host of other factors. Take the time to find the right therapist for your needs.

The choice is yours.
You hold the tiller.

You can steer the course you choose in the direction of where you want to be---today, tomorrow, or in a distant time to come.
