  • Initiatives
    • Our program initiatives the remaining six months of the 2010 year are dedicated to completing designs for new programs requested by our Peer community. We are also in the process of introducing a new area in our secure websites for therapists and peers, the I-Connect for Hope section. The I-Connect for Hope section will host film and audio-visual interactive tools for sharing, learning, and inspiration. Our new self-defense classes will be taught by a therapist and attended by other therapists as members of the Peer community gain access to meaningful skills for security and self-confidence. Our Support Peer resources and initiatives are being completely changed this year with a focus on education. Our new Support Peer education programs will be offered quarterly and are open to any family member, friend, or work associate interested in learning more about dissociative disorders. Attendees at these educational workshops do not need to be members of the Support Peer community. They are open to the general public. We will also be providing new dedicated resources to supporting healing from Eating Disorders and Self-Injury. We look forward to introducing these vital tools. We are extremely excited about providing resources and classes for Parenting Skills for members of our Peer Community. Our classes are being designed for introduction in January, 2011. Our communities (Peer and Therapist) continue to evolve and identify new ways to collaborate for better healing journeys. Our therapist workshops this year will all reflect the contributions and collaboration by the Peer Community to Therapist CEU initiatives. The sharing of experiences from two sides of a mutual journey continue to provide meaningful benefit to all. We sincerely appreciate everyone's involvement. If have any questions about our initiatives for this year, please contact kate@valorinstitute.org.

    • Charitable giving takes a hit when the economy hits a slump. It's one of the first budget shortcuts and understandably so. With charities of all shapes and sizes, philanthropy characterizes the spirit of our country.
    • Things you can do for any organization: remember, everything counts, including pocket change. Try it. Put your pocket change in a safe place in the house. Make a commitment to save that pocket change, let it accumulate. Get the entire family involved. Small change adds up to a big difference for charities.
    • Things you can do for yourself: go to www.charitynavigator.com. It's one of the best sites on the internet for rating charitable organizations and putting tips and recommendations together for you as a donor. Know the questions to ask. Donate responsibly and carefully. Check out the ratings. Keep in mind small organizations are not rated by Charity Navigator. Their focus is on the top 5,200 charities representing 80% of the donations in our country. Their focus is exceptional and their advice important for all donors.
    • Things you can do for your children: read Five Ways To Get Your Child Involved (www.charitynavigator.com), a short article about instilling a sense of mission and philanthropy in our youth. Start young, it's a gift that keeps on giving in every heart that beats.
    • Things we can do for one another: give smart. Be informed. Get involved and remember, donations are not always about dollars and cents. The most important gift you can give…a little time and one big smile. Connections make futures.
